About the challenge!

Hello everyone! :D

Hope you're still in for the challenge. After about a week of asking people around and gathering suggestions and ideas, I've finalized the rules/guidelines/whatever you want to call them.

So, GREAT THANKS TO YOU ALL!

1- Everyone, I repeat, EVERYONE has to sign up at goodreads.com and join this group: http://www.goodreads.com/group/show/40793.52_Books_in_52_Weeks_2011_

Everything from now on will be done through that group. So make sure you do this.

2- Everyone MUST write a review, or their opinion of the book, after rating it. Even if it's just one word.

3- Lists can be made in advance, but it's not completely necessary, you can make it up as you go for more flexibility. Also, create a shelf in goodreads.com titled '52-books' as this will make it easier for the group to follow your reading.

4- You can read whatever you want. For those who liked the idea of reading the same books together, as in a book club, you can do it in smaller groups, but it'd still be not official.

5- Audiobooks do count. However, you should mention that it is an audiobook in your review.

6- Graphic novels do not count. Sorry guys.

And that's it!

:D

Intro

Hello everyone!

This blog is dedicated to the 52 Books Challenge. For those of you who do not know what that is, it basically means reading 52 books in 52 weeks (a year). The challenge will start on the 1st of January, 2011, and that day is a Saturday... so... it’s perfect! (Well, for those who are living in Saudi Arabia).

The reason I’m doing this is that I want to gain as much as possible, and really, I have nothing to do in my free time except more work and I do NOT want to do that. So, when I told my dear friend Maha that we should do this, she agreed. And when I tweeted about it, a lot of people liked the idea and wanted to join.

AND HERE WE ARE!

Now, let’s talk serious business.

No seriously.

There are rules. Or points. Or whatever you call them.

Let’s start.

1. You can read absolutely any book you’d like. This is NOT a book club. Almost. A lot of different people are doing this, and it’d be kind of a tough challenge for the average person if we specified which books to read since not all books are interesting to them. The point of this challenge is to get you to read more of what you’ve always wanted to read. However, if you’d like to form a book club with a few other people that you know you’re going to like their suggestions, go ahead and do that, since that can be fun. Or, we can, as a group, dedicate a number of those 52 books to read together.

Still not very decided on that one. Give me ideas in the comments section.

2. It doesn’t matter if it’s a 70-page book or a 1200-page book. You still have to read the same amount of books. However, it is preferred that you choose books of medium length.

3. Averaging reading one book a week is preferable, but not necessary. You could use the 2 books per 2 weeks rule for more flexibility.

4. Lists are shared! I shall share mine in a few, so stay tuned. :D

5. Get an account at goodreads.com, if you don't already have one. This will make it easier to keep track of the books you read, and the books you've yet to read. Also, we get to see your rating/review on there.

Any suggestions/comments, do not hesitate. We still have about a month!
